2012-customer-service-hall-of-fame-winnersMSN Money released its 2012 list of companies with the best customer service, along with the corresponding (and less desirable) list with the worse customer service.  Here are the results:

  4. UPS
  5. Sony
  6. Hilton Worldwide

  3. Comcast
  4. Time Warner Cable
  5. Dish Network
  6. Sprint
  7. Wells Fargo
  8. JPMorgan Chase
  9. Citigroup
  10. Capital One

It’s not surprising to see the list of losers littered with old business conglomerates like banks and cable companies.  It’s interesting though that the top winners are newer tech companies like Amazon, Google, and Apple.  We tend to think of techies as reclusive geeks who spend too much time on computers and not enough time with people.  Not so in reality, as these tech companies are showing that new is definitely better than old.  For companies and call centers that are still operating like old, it’s time to kick those old ways and take up new ones.

Credit card companies and airlines are notorious for bad customer service, but Southwest Airlines and American Express buck this trend.  They’re proof that delivering amazing customer service is possible in any industry and environment.  It’s a choice – it’s not always an easy one, but successful companies are always willing and brave enough to make the tough choices.
